Have faith in the Great Mandala Gohonzon, the most superlative in the world.
Endeavor! Endeavor to strengthen your faith, so that you may be blessed with the protective powers of all the Buddhas. Learn and practice to strengthen your faith. Without learning and practicing, there is no Buddhism. Follow this yourself and influence others to do the same. To learn and to practice are a part of faith. Even if it is only a word or a phrase, spread it to others.

Retreats are time to concentrate on your practice, meet other members of different sanghas and learn more about practice in the Nichiren tradition. They are times to develop friendship and ties. A week without worries from the outside world. Just you and your practice in a comfortable, peaceful setting. Retreats are a week long, Friday to Friday. Activities include Suigyo (water purification), daily services, chanting practice, special services, Shakyo (sutra copying) and Shabutsu (Buddha image copying) practice, vegetarian food, Shodaigyo meditation and time to reflect, stretch and enjoy the company of sangha members. We will have classes for both beginners and advanced students. To see pictures from previous retreats please scroll down to the bottom of this page.
You do not need to be a Nichiren Shu member to attend. This retreat is open to anyone who would like to participate and is willing to participate in Nichiren Shu style services and practice.
The 2013 retreat is being set up at this time. It will be held in the New England area at the Aryaloka Buddhist Retreat Center. This center is located near the Nichiren Buddhist Sangha of Greater New England's temple. Last years retreat was held in the Seattle Washington area. Please check back here or talk to your local Temple. A link to pictures from our 2008 and 2009 retreats can be seen at the bottom of this page.

More teachers coming - We usually have four or five teachers depending on the size of the group.
Who can attend:
Nichiren Shu members or anyone who wishes to relax, learn and discover their Buddha nature. You are not required to be a Nichiren Shu member to attend. We welcome everyone, as long as you are comfortable practicing in the Nichiren Shu tradition for a week. Be aware that we are a chanting lineage and are sometimes referred to as the "noisy Buddhists." There will be some activities which require silent contemplation but our main practice is chanting of the title of the Lotus Sutra; Namu Myoho Renge Kyo. We will have talks, discussions and activities for beginners and advanced students. We ask everyone who attends to commit to the full week. Please contact your local Temple or the Nichiren Buddhist Sangha of Greater New England to ask questions, discuss doctrine/practice and for more information about Nichiren Shu and the NONA retreat.
